I personally know several attendees of the recent World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Prior to departing, I spoke with each of them individually about that while the world is indeed in economic crisis; we are also deep into a wellness crisis that shows no signs of improving. More and more people are obese and malnourished. The cost of healthy food is prohibitively expensive to most and government and industry has no interest in helping to improve the situation.

I put this to my clients who unfortunately seemed unconcerned with my fears. I gave them each a letter to deliver to Ban Ki-Moon, the UN Secretary General. He recently, along with the prime minister of Spain, published an op-ed piece about food security.

It is my goal to raise awareness and create enough pressure on the responsible parties to help find a solution. I do believe personal accountability is at the core with respect to the obese. And I will be unafraid to call them on this. However, I do need help from organizations that understand the scope of the problem. Our civilization depends on us to be well. To be strong. We are failing ourselves.
